I'm going to go a step further on your first point: I think sometimes knowing the title is a spoiler. I've never read Crime & Punishment, but based on the title, I know there's definitely crime and someone gets punished. I think books should be blank white covers, no cover art (because that's also a spoiler), or author info (because that could be a spoiler for the genre) and we should just go in blind and hope for the best.

I would like to go a step further. seeing the cover of a book is a massive spoiler. we should just wrap all books in like baking paper, and maybe have the title written on it. or better even, just have unmarked books. choose based on the size and nothing else!

we need to invent new discourse around audiobooks because the old tired ones are too basic. Maybe something like they’re the purer form of consuming a narrative because they’re more graspable through sound instead of the silence of the page. Yeah, that could work.

okay but now i want more push for the covering genres thing. i cannot tell you how hard it is to suggest a book i KNOW someone will like, but they say no just because it technically doesn't fall into the genre they like 😭
