This made me think of when I worked at a liquor store years ago and my coworkers and I kept seeing a “ghost” just outside the beer cooler out of the corner of our eyes. Now I think it must have been the fan in the cooler!

This happened to me in Western Massachusetts. I was in bed, so I just burrowed deeper under the covers and kept telling the presence to go away. I did not want to see it. Eventually, the feeling lessened and I went to sleep.

I couldn’t work out why I kept seeing ‘birds’ on the balcony metres from my desk. Then I realised the sun was hitting my watch at exactly the angle that made it glimmer on the glass doors! Our brains fill in gaps with what we think is likely and this story was such a great example of that! (I do get real birds on the balcony frequently, in good news!)

I remember hearing about this so long ago, but I couldn't recall the specifics. I just know there was a study into identifying what could cause the genuine sensation of another presence in the room when there was one, because that conviction of how strong the feeling truly was, is really only the greatest proof of the paranormal we have When you can only experience the world through the filter of your own senses, you need to come to terms with the fact they sometimes lie to you
