It is implied that Penny compromised many times,there is also that episode where they try to write down all the nice thing they did in a year and they had nothing to actually write. Leonard doesn’t trust penny with money and keeps a secret bank account, Penny stays in a job she dislikes because of Leonard’s idea of stability and at the end Penny gets pregnant even though she clearly stated earlier in the show that she doesn’t want kids.

I hated the storyline that Ted and Robin got together because it's almost like he's telling his kids this story of how he met their mother but the point wasn't really their mother. the point was he should have been with Robin all along and the only reason he wasn't is because Robin didn't want and couldn't have kids. essentially lowering their mom into the role of a breeding animal who did her job and got out of the way so he could be with the woman he wanted all along
