@reel.takes: Replying to @JPkyojin this admission marks the first time I’ve felt concern for the future of the new DC Universe. If you don’t actually understand the ending and core message of Woman of Tomorrow, why adapt it? It’s find to make conscious choices to change a story, but it seems the writer believed she was following through on the comic… this is impossible to ignore. #supergirl #dccomics #superman #film #movies
I'm curious how a screenwriter with 0 prior film credits was handed Supergirl, Teen Titans, and Wonder Woman

Also who approved Krem’s design just more GOTG similarities. The comic is so colourful and we got none of that such a colourless film. 🤦♂️

I dont disagree, and Im disappointed by the writer admitting this. But I really did enjoy the movie and I think its getting unfairly trashed by critics

Sorry if this isn't the right post for this, but I just have to also bring up how poorly handled the music was. People don't talk often enough about how music, specifically original scores, are James Gunn's weakpoint. I get he likes to do needledrops and he was only a producer, but the composer for this movie changed TWICE and the one that they ended up going with wasn't hired until the March before the movie premiered. I can't help but think that they had to fill this movie with needledrops because the composer didn't have time to score the whole film. There were similar issues with the original Superman composer not being able to finish the score by himself. Overall, the Superman score was good, not great, imo but I couldn't even tell you what Supergirl's theme sounds like if there was one.

It would’ve been cool to see the story told from Ruthyes perspective in the movie as well. That way we can see firsthand Kara’s grief overflowing from behind the mask she puts on for Ruthye. The krypton stuff was really good I thought but so much of Kara’s character work felt like they were spoon feeding it to us😣

This is disappointing and very unlike JG. I think he can make a great film but his personal taste varies. I still have my faith in him but this misunderstanding of such a fundamental aspect of this brilliant comic is concerning.

Tom King gets a lot of flack but Woman of Tomorrow is a phenomenal story. It is THE best Supergirl story. I *really* wish they just lifted the script. Ana being attached to write Wonder Woman and Teen Titans gives me pause. She doesn’t seem to understand the nuances

Tom King is right there to ask for clarity, too, if they didn't know. 😞 In any case, I think roadbumps are natural at the start of a franchise so I'm not worried. There will be hits and misses. I hope this just inspires them to trust the source material (esp on the WB or whoever end, I don't think Gunn would be as worried about that).

I remember when I read this comic I made the same mistake. I was so baffled as to why the story would end like that thematically that I looked up other people's opinions and immediately saw that i'd misinterpreted the last panels. It was literally a single Google Search. I really don't understand how a misunderstanding like that can remain in the production of a while movie

I just dont think you should advertise a movie as a direct adaptation and reference the comic so much if youre not going to try to honor that comic

I bought the comic to see the story play out before the movie. I enjoyed the comic a lot and I did enjoy the movie, I had a great time watching it. I do not understand why the movie wasn’t as colorful as the comic it’s pretty much based on, baffling decision. Also, nothing against Ana but why would you admit that you didn’t understand the ending lol. Very odd decision. I really think this movie should have more mirrored James Gunn first Guardians movie and he should have directed it. The DCU has a problem going forward if only the Gunn projects seem to gain positive traction especially with the Paramount merger. I will say I absolutely loved Milly Alcock as Kara and I’m glad she’s supposed to have a big role in Man of Tomorrow next year. Very excited for Reeves’ Batman Part 2 next year as well!

it worries me that she's writing two more DC films. my only complaints about the movie was a poor script where no joke landed and a bad ending
also the tom king hate is so cringe

I will never accept a job as a brand new writer on a franchise that big. She may have stopped her career before it could even get started

My biggest problem is that James Gunn has been puffing his chest these past 3 years about not approving scripts that are great. He didn’t see any problems either this and all of his worst flaws were all in peacemaker season 2 when he doesn’t have anyone reining him in. I hope lanterns is good

So even though Gunn gave us a banger movie and other good projects we should be concerned about the DCU because they didn’t get the ending of one comic?

I think because Supergirl is part of the larger DC cinematic universe they can't really do a major timeskip like the ending in the comic. Kara protecting her innocence and giving her the option gave Ruthye something she has control over when everything else was taken from her.
Adaptations aren't meant to be exactly like the source material especially if it's as short as a movie.
