@maryamishani: I know there is a lot going on with Iran. But I’m fighting to stay alive in Europe so I need some time… I have been travelling through Bratislava, Prague, Vienna this past week where there is a red-level heat advisory for the last five days. Temperatures are fifteen to twenty degrees above where they should be. My hotel moved me from the top floor to a cheaper room two floors down because the upper floor (just under a zinc roof) had become an oven. But I was grateful for the downgrade. I have spent years reporting from Yemen and Iraq, places where electricity is inconsistent so air con doesn’t exist and fans are a luxury. So I know how regularly to hydrate and to get the right minerals. And still. My brain is foggy. My productivity is gone. There is no productivity-hack a forty-three degree room. What frightens me is that I am healthy. No heart condition. No metabolic disorder. I am not elderly. I am not a child. What frightens me more is that every credible climate projection says this is the coolest summer we will ever have again. #europe #heatwave #climate #journalism
the funny thing is we have all these warnings but no corporations are letting people work from home

The equatorial and global south may probably feel this throughout the year. Good thing is they don’t have to go through acclimation shock as much.

When I went to Europe many many years ago, I was aware that a lot of places don’t have AC so the number one feature that I was looking for in the hotels that I booked all across Europe, had to have AC and there are many to choose from them, you just have to look for them.

It’s crazy that even hotels don’t have ac. There’s still the coolers in the supermarkets 😌

thank you for your summary, it's very important that people know what's happening and where this is going. just a small clarification from a spaniard: teachers have been striking for many reasons, heat in the classrooms was an addition to something that was already planned because the public educational system needs reforming and teachers are tired of the conditions. the heat conditions in the classrooms were only for the last 4-6 weeks of school year, so teachers also demanded better acclimation to heat in schools

I was in Zurich for about 10 days and it was well over 33-34 degrees every.single.day! And no AC anywhere except for a few restaurants and grocery stores. 😳 Coming from North America I wasn’t prepared at all.😩

Thank you. The depressing part is the more obvious climate change becomes, the stronger people push back against it. Here in Ireland we only had one week of extreme weather and it hit hard. can't imagine what a full summer of this would do. But we know that's coming our way.
Time to buckle up.

Strange that the expression “climate crisis” was never mentioned - this is what we get because of oil magnates, fossil fuel lobbyists, the military industrial complex and irresponsible billionaires with their private jets and yachts - in a nutshell: capitalism.

We've had it in France for a week and it has been diabolical. We had just come out of a lower heatwave and they say another dome is crossing the Atlantic. Birds and flowers are 6 weeks earlier than normal, trees are dying. It feels like the tipping point.
