@skintrics.app: Most of England's water is hard — high in calcium and magnesium — and these minerals react with soap to form insoluble deposits that don't rinse away properly. They cling to the skin, disrupt the barrier, and raise skin pH above the healthy acidic range. A 2022 UK Biobank study attributed around 451 additional eczema cases per 10,000 adults to hard water. Those with filaggrin gene mutations — which is common in eczema — are especially vulnerable. Worth knowing: a shower filter won't fix this. Only a water softener removes hardness minerals. Switching to soap-free, pH-balanced cleansers helps in the meantime. #eczema #hardwater #eczemaawareness #skintok #skinbarrier
