@drlorimarie: Punnett Square Shortcut 🧬 Punnett squares are just probability math drawn as a grid. Once you see them that way, every genetics question on the MCAT becomes faster. The principle: Each parent contributes one allele randomly from their two. The Punnett square is just visual probability multiplication. Example: Bb x Bb cross. Each parent has 50% chance of passing B, 50% chance of passing b. Multiply the probabilities: BB: 0.5 × 0.5 = 0.25 bb: 0.5 × 0.5 = 0.25 Bb: 0.5 × 0.5 + 0.5 × 0.5 = 0.5 (can come from either parent contributing B) MCAT shortcut: You don't need to draw the square for most problems. Identify each parent's allele probabilities, then multiply. Dihybrid crosses: Multiply the probabilities of each trait separately. The 9:3:3:1 ratio is just two independent 3:1 ratios multiplied together. When the MCAT asks for the probability of a specific genotype, skip the grid and just multiply.
