If we had a flat earth, It would crush itself, as gravity pushes the egdes of the planet to the centre, and when it crushes itself, it will become a ball. Even if we took away gravity, and we are bound by some magic force, a flat earth couldnt spin, and would most likely drift off into space, out of the sun's orbit.
