@behind80shits: 🚀 What if I told you one keyboard melody changed Europe’s life forever? When The Final Countdown was released in 1986, nobody expected it to become one of the biggest anthems of the decade. The iconic keyboard riff had actually been written years earlier by Joey Tempest, who first played it on a keyboard his father had given him as a teenager. At first, the band didn’t even want to release the song as a single. They only planned to use it as the dramatic opening to their concerts. But the record label had other ideas… The song exploded around the world, reached No. 1 in more than 25 countries, and became one of the most recognizable songs ever recorded. Today… Just hearing those first few notes instantly transports millions of people straight back to the 1980s. 🚀🎹 Can you still remember the first time you heard The Final Countdown? 👇#thefinalcountdown #80s #80srock #80sbaby #musica
Well, the story isn't entirely wrong, but it's not completely accurate. Joey played his mom's piano, but he borrowed Mic Michaeli's keyboard, and that's where the intro came from. The record company didn't like the song because the intro was too long; even Norum refused to release it as a single because it overshadowed his riffs. But Joey insisted, and they released it as a single.
