@footballdocumentaries: On This Day - 28 June 2014: 🇨🇴🇺🇾 James Rodríguez shines as Colombia play Uruguay in the FIFA World Cup round of 16 at the Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro. In the 28th minute, with the score level, Abel Aguilar's headed pass dropped towards James Rodríguez near the edge of the box, his back almost to goal. He cushioned it on his chest in one motion, spun, and struck a left-footed volley that crashed off the underside of the crossbar and into the net before Uruguay's goalkeeper could move.  Uruguay's own manager, Óscar Tabárez, called it one of the greatest goals the World Cup has ever seen. Rodríguez added a second from close range early in the second half, and Colombia won 2-0 to reach the quarter-finals for the first time in their history.  The volley was voted Goal of the Tournament and went on to win the FIFA Puskás Award for the best goal scored anywhere in football that year, the only World Cup goal ever to win it.  #OnThisDay #JamesRodriguez #Colombia #WorldCup2014 #footballedit
