Client is better for any hit detection because the server is always delayed. You always detect hits in a client script and communicate with the server to do damage or whatever accordingly

i use something that i like to call velocity hitboxes. it uses getpartboundinbox (or however you call it.) however, in order to compensate for the delay for server sided hitboxes, the hitboxes becomes slightly larger depending on how fast the caster is moving.

Missing the best one, distance/math hitbox, based on where the player is and their angle will determine if the hitbox hits, pure math is the most effective and performant.

The projectile hitbox can be improved (and gravity can be implemented) by using raycasts to check the next position, and moving the projectile there if theres nothing or dealing damage if something is detected
