Being a DSP is not AT ALL what this profession is on a regular basis. This job is extremely emotionally, mentally, and physically taxing. Most of the companies only care about making money, they over work you, under pay you, and there is never enough staff. On top of the clients you may work with range from the coolest people you may ever meet to the actual craziest you ever meet and the type of clients range from all kinds of types of people with different abilities/disabilities needs/wants ect. This job is not for the faint of heart, you will constantly be in awe of how these people are treated, constantly having to fight for them and yourself. Yes it can be very fulfilling and dare I say sometimes it is fun because yes we do get to go along on trips or outings but it doesnt just look like sitting in a chair with your toes in the river sunbathing.

I was a DSP and my client always wanted to go to the gym (3-4x a week) so I got paid to get hella ripped one year. Still miss it

This is only if you have fun clients , I am also a dsp and I spend most of my time watching the news and getting called names bc I can’t empty chamber pots since I’m pregnant! I hate my job!

dude I was a dsp, working 40+ hrs a week, 5 days a week. I was only making about 33k/year before taxes. 😩 and that job made me so anxious. I got hit and kicked fairly frequently.

Okay this is awesome but don’t get people’s hopes up like this, being a DSP is NOT all you’re cracking it up to be and ain’t no way many people can get away with working 2 days a week unless they’re working 12+ hr shifts to make 50K a year. Speaking from experience making $23 as a Lead DSP and working 40+ hours across 4-6 group homes. Yes the job is amazing at times, until you have your rump handed to you cause they can’t go on a longer car ride and now you’re missing a chunk of hair.🤦🏼♀️

yall $50k per year for only 2 days per week is actually a lot 😭 it’s $25k per day of the week so imagine if she’s working 5 days like “normal”, then it’s $125k per year. she could easily fill the rest of her time working another job if she wanted

My husband was a DSP worker. He made pennies and used to have chairs and actual human poop thrown at him regularly. DSP workers are desperately needed, but not all situations are this positive! 😅
