Wow I feel better now that the dumbest thing I did during clinicals as a student was say “ejaculation fraction” in front of a patient, doctor, two nurses, and the family instead of “ejection fraction.”

As a student, I went into a pts room who was supposed to be on one liter of O2. The O2 was off (low 80s and ON THE OXYGEN TREE). I put it back on and went to the nurse. The nurse said: “We’ll document as an attempt to wean so we don’t have to fill out an incident report.” I told my instructor (while the assistant dean was visiting). My instructor told me they’d handle it and I never saw that nurse on my clinical day again

Not a nurse but I now have a permanent fear of being given the wrong medication because I have severe anaphylaxis to NSAIDs and when I told the nurse this, she brought a white pill, promised me it was Tylenol when I asked twice and explained my allergy. I was still suspicious, so I kept the pill, took it to the pharmacy, asked if it was an NSAID, and the pharmacist said yes that’s ibuprofen 😭

A lot of these things are also happening with ACTUAL new grad nurses now. They’re making it through nursing school like this. While when I was I school I almost got kicked out for being on antidepressants.

Ive developed imposter syndrome in my last 2 years in the ED. The more I learn the more I realize I have no idea what the fuck im doing. The sad part is that im usually one of the more experienced nurses on the floor and that scares me even more 🙃
