NTA (I’m a kidney/pancreas transplant recipient) that’s such a big ask and it’s a huge risk anything can happen during surgery as well, they should be using the “he did this and that for you” card

okay Kidney transplant-
healing is harder on the donor
not guaranteed it won't reject
his age is a factor
it's limiting to have 1 kidney

When it comes to things like this. You have to ask yourself, can you live with yourself if the person died?

I don't think my dad would even allow one of his kids to give him a kidney tbh.

Compatible ≠ the step dad's body won't reject it.

If you’re ever forced in to this position tell the testing team, they will list you as unsuitable.

Family members can be part of a kidney exchange. Being compatible is not the only way for someone to get a kidney

My dad has kidney disease and I learned my blood type and found out I could never donate to him. And he said he wouldn’t let me anyways in case I got anything from him. But the big thing is- no one ever made me feel like I’d have to

They still can donate through the exchange process if they want it so much. They are too much eager to call op out but that’s a lot to do

Also, there something called domino transplant, so they search patients who are not compatible and try to match them with other patients in the same situation, so they both (sometimes more peopl) get a match

Pretty sure the hospital would be forced to cancel if they found out he was being pressured into the surgery. I think they actually make the donor speak to a hospital therapist beforehand considering how serious the decision is.

As someone that actually has kidney disease and needs a new one, people don't understand the sacrifice that something like that is. Firstly, even if they are compatible they still might not give it to him simply because there could be issues the son has that he needs that second kidney for. Not to mention once you lose that second kidney you need to live the rest of your life like you have CKD (change your diet, lifestyle, etc). Plus his step dad's body could reject it at any time even if it was compatible.

The step-dad provided a future for him. Going through with the transplant puts that future in jeopardy. An offspring's future shouldn't be put in danger to make an elder live longer.

1. Being a match is only part of the process
2. The donor has to have a complete medical exam. With several requirements to meet.
ex: Family medical history 2. Donor's medical history 3. Blood sugar levels 4. Blood pressure levels, Cholesterol levels 5. The health of the kidney.
3. A complete mental evaluation has to take place. IF there is ANY doubt they will NIT allow donation.
4. The donor has a longer recuperation period, has more chances of infections and the second kidney may not be able to support the body.
5. There is a list of foods, drinks and medications you will no.longer be able to have or have to be limited.
6. The kidney can be rejected by the recipient. The kidney even taken out CANNOT be put back in. It literally may be too damaged to be replaced in the donor or given to another person.
