as someone studying architecture: Modern architecture may not look as beautiful as this, but it's important to remember the role the World Wars played in shaping the economy, material availability, and people's lives in the post-war era. These historic buildings are undeniably beautiful, but they are also extremely expensive to build and maintain, and many have a much higher environmental impact than modern alternatives. Humanity has also evolved. As technology advances, architecture evolves alongside it. Buildings are always a reflection of their social, political, economic and technological context. That's why modern architecture can't be directly compared to architecture from hundreds of years ago, they were created to meet completely different needs, challenges and circumstances. But I do agree that these buildings are iconic and a beautiful way of telling us the stories of the past! ♡
