some people are missing the point i think. yes nobody is forcing you to spend that but why are basic venues comfortable charging $10ks for a couple hours?!

Strongly considering doing a courthouse wedding then having like 50 people over to the house and backyard and using the wedding money to make our house perfect

I think social media has ruined people’s perception of life and what it’s supposed to be about

No one forces anyone to do it that’s the point you are missing. It’s everyone’s choice.

It’s not the industry it’s the couple’s expectations that have gotten out of hand

Yes… we spent about $25,000 and I really wish we would have just used it towards a great honeymoon or new house

You don’t have to spend that much on a wedding, you can simply go to the courthouse 🤷🏼♀️everyone acts like someone is forcing you to spend thousands for a day

the wedding industry hasn't gone out of hand. a person's need to show off has gotten out of hand. I got married in NYC and it cost me $12k for 80 people back in 2005. I know it would cost more now, nowhere near what people are paying.

We got married in Vegas no guests, it was webcast for everyone to watch. When we came home we threw a big party in a friends backyard.

it's absolutely possible to have a regular wedding and not spend a fortune, it just won't be a luxury wedding. we did a 70 person wedding had a venue, food, dj, bar etc and only spent $6700. it wasn't luxury but it was FUN!

sounds like an opportunity. You could start a business as a wedding planner and become wealthy undercutting the competition and offering what you are yourself looking for.

Go to the courthouse and go on a vacation. It’s so unnecessary.

I got married 19 yrs ago. We spent MAYBE 6K. We had 250+ people. I have wonderfully talented friends who offered their services as our gift. I had wine, flowers, food and cake for free. My Mom and I DIYd a lot of the decorations and favors. My photographer was a friend also that offered a big discount. No where does it say you HAVE to go into debt or spend a gazillion dollars.

The wedding industry has absolutely gotten out of hand & it’s ridiculous how much money vendors are charging. We chose the cheapest venue we possibly could that still had a full bar, not doing any florals besides the bouquets & a few sprigs of baby’s breath on the centerpieces, doing the cheapest caterer we could find, cheap photographer & DJ, and I still don’t know if we are going to be able to do our 10k budget. It’s insane
