The only thing that makes me doubt this is the CDs. If Clark was forced to attend the therapy over choosing to, I don't know if he would actually bother listening to Mary's CDs in the car.

at the end of the film he even asks her "how do I stop doing that" after she explains to him how he pushes blame onto everything/one but himself, so I think he did want to change but just became discouraged with how hard it seemed and gave up. at the end he was happy that he didn't have to change BECAUSE she told him he didn't. to pirate Clark he even said "it's alright, SHE said we don't need to change!" so I think he only gave up on himself after being told it was okay to do so.
