@stockweatherman: Replying to @Tyler Gardner Most financial advisors and portfolio managers can’t even beat the S&P 500. They provide generic herd advice and often times like to fight the trend. Maybe Tyler is great, no idea. #financialadvice #stockmarket #investors #stocktips

buying the dip and DCA are different. if there is one thing I have learnt since your crypto weatherman days is you are a trader, you trade, time the market etc. I'm sure you're very good at that but for most people, DCA, automated investments will get them closer to financial freedom than trying to time the market, that's probably what he was trying to get at

I’ve simulated a lot. Dca performs well. I start releasing capital when spy is down 15%, then more at 20, 25, etc. You’re saying ride the recovery. Which is profitable. But you can be even more profitable if you buy in just before the bottom

What I have broadly learnt from you was to cover many scenarios and prepare well. One example I think of is, there would have been people in 2006-2007 who would think the economy will never tank. Likewise, what is the preparation in the event that S&P goes through a lost decade

I’m 42, and getting into trading with a structured approach has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. It took time, but seeing it gradually change my family’s life has honestly been an incredible feeling.

IMO DCA is not timing any trend. You just buy every month in targeted vanguard funds. It’s what I do. I occasionally buy dips when something seems oversold. If things are in free fall, it’s easy to cancel the auto-buys. The hard part is always when to sell.

I mean..if I have a $300 stock with strong fundamentals in 2026 and I DCA down to $180 and I hold it for 15 years and that same stock is $1500 in 2042…how is that a bad strategy? I still come out on top without trying to time the market. Maybe it’s a different approach for swing trading? But I have been doing that since I started investing in 2012 and I’ve always had great returns. Not saying you are wrong, but for long term investors I feel like it’s a good approach.

Trader and investor are two different things. If you’re just doing investment, dollar cost averaging works really well on a dip, I usually buy extra, if you’re in ETFs like VOO, QQQ you know they will come back eventually multiple years later maybe, doesn’t really matter, put more money in on the dips and wait. Again, this is if you’re an investor for long-term.

We accidentally timed the stock bottom of Covid when we left our company… $401k got pulled before the dump was sitting in an account waiting to be invested…. FA took the money invested it while it was bottomed out… here we are 5 years later, 10% gain…. FA are a joke

You just said you’ve seen people wrongly DCA when the S&P 500 is down? How so?

Maybe Tyler is great. No idea. I ignore most traditional financial advisors. Generic and group think lead them to often times, eventually, lose to the S&P 500.

For the common simple investor Tyler is brilliant and helpful. I've watched you since the crypto weatherman days and you have good content but most posts come off as the sky is (will be) falling.

went to an FA once. He mapped out what he could have done for me and it was a worse performance than I'd done for myself. he literally said " ignore that" 😂😂😂

so you're saying just wait until it's finished dipping? but we don't know when the bottom is and DCA can be a set and forget. you've gotta pay attention for when the turn starts?

The Count :
DCA works only in uptrends. If you do it during downtrends you’re just hoping whatever you’re buying will eventually come back. If it’s a single stock it may not. If it’s the whole market, so far it always has, but a few times that has taken over a decade to do so (like 2000-2013). So it only works IF you are prepared to stay in for another decade if it turns out this dip is actually the start of a new downtrend. Thats why they call it buy and hope. There are better ways.
