The fourth Rightly Guided Caliph, the most knowledgeable person on Earth regarding the Quran and the Sunnah in his time. He was among the foremost and earliest converts to Islam, the one who slept in the Prophet’s bed, and whom the Prophet entrusted with the people's belongings during his migration (Hijrah). He stayed by the side of his brother, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), like his shadow in every situation. He is one of the ten promised Paradise and the very first to pray with the Prophet before prayer was made obligatory upon Muslims. He was among the people of Badr, and one of those who stood firm and defended the Prophet when the majority retreated during the battles of Uhud and Hunayn. He is the one who faced and killed Amr ibn Wudd, and the one at whose hands Marhab the Jew was killed and the fortress of Khaybar was conquered when the Prophet handed him the banner. He never dueled anyone without killing or defeating them. The cousin of the Messenger, the one sent by him to call the people of Yemen to Islam, and the one chosen for the honor of marrying Fatima al-Zahra, the daughter of the Messenger and the most noble of women on Earth. He is the father of Al-Hasan and Al-Hussein, may Allah be pleased with them and make them content. He was one of the members of the Shura (consultative council) during the caliphate of Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, as well as the judge of Medina during the caliphates of Umar ibn al-Khattab and Uthman. He is the one who washed the body of the Messenger [after his passing] and [was a trusted advisor to] Umar ibn al-Khattab, and the one who preserved the Arabic language by initiating the science of grammar (Nahw). The Imam of his era and the knight of his time; the swords of treachery could not overcome him while he stood, so they struck him while he was prostrating. May Allah be pleased with you, O Ali ibn Abi Talib, Commander of the Faithful."
