One of the biggest marketing cons of recent years is the likes of Fulfil bars being positioned as a health food 🙅‍♀️ This was one of my earliest reels in my food label series so resharing it again as people regularly ask me about protein bars 👇 I actually said a lot more about these bars but I ran out of time when editing down to 90 seconds 🙈😆 Similarly to the high protein yogurts/drinks, protein bars exploded onto the market a number of years ago when food brands saw the rise in the topic of protein and with more and more people putting an emphasis on protein in their diet. I’m not sure if they were the first but Fulfil definitely seemed to dominate the market really early on and very heavily marketed their bars as a health food… and they succeeded in doing so! There is nothing wrong with enjoying these bars, as I always say we’re never going to cut out ultraprocessed foods completely and it’s important to enjoy foods we love of course (As long as the majority of our nutrition is coming from nutrient dense whole foods)! Where my issue lies is the marketing of the likes of these Fulfil or grenade bars as a health food, and then very well intentioned people who are trying to make better choices are choosing them thinking it’s good for their health! 👉 When you really start looking at labels you realise how much of a farce the food labelling game is! Luckily there are some newer food brands who are producing much much higher quality protein bar options! Because let’s face it - a bar you can grab on the go which packs over 15g protein is very handy! The best ingredients lists I’ve found are these @allrealnutrition protein bars, an Irish brand which is great to support local, and you’re getting high protein, healthy fats with the almonds and none of the emulsifiers or artificial sweeteners 🙌. There’s still 10g sugar in a bar so just like with everything to be enjoyed in moderation 👌 Was this helpful? What other foods would you like me to go through? Let me know in the comments 🫶 #nutrition #proteinbars #readlabels #sophiesswaps #foodlabels
