You’re missing the point. An apartment was known as a starter to get on your feet and then buy a house down the road. Nowadays you’re paying more a month for an apartment than you are a mortgage.

When i first moved out at 18 (in 2014) in a very cheap city (abq, nm) i paid $950 for a 2bd 2 bath. I just checked… that same exact apartment is currently $1900. It looks exactly the same as it did then, no upgrades, no renovations, exactly the same. Double the price. Absolutely insane.

I feel like people shouldn't have to get a roommate to survive, everyone deserves privacy. I wasn't able to find anything less than 1.2k a month

Yeah… everyone wants to pin this on you but this economy is terrible. When I was 18 the apartments near me were 400$. This was an average, you could get more expensive ones.

Why is your rent $1800?
My rent for a 1 bedroom is $950, downtown St Paul, metro transit and work within 10 miles. Parking is $50 a month or gamble on the street.
