This is a great example of where decentering men needs to happen. Hot to whom? Men. It’s implicit. Also, great job on collecting examples. It’s like a bonk on the head.

this gives the same vibe as sky sports making the "halo" account, where they explained sports "for girls", eg they'd be talking about football but have the addition of matcha and makeup. 😭 You're so right, regular mundane things are being labelled as needing to be done in an attractive way, or equally trying to make women feel better by calling day to day things "hot" 😭 can we just exist without everything being attributed to being an element of attraction

With love, this is missing some context about Megan Thee Stallion who popularized the term “Hot Girl Summer.” As a black woman, it is hurtful when our cultural contributions are ignored or dismissed.

This is well said! I feel like this language COULD be used to dilute, warp, and reclaim the current toxic social concept of a “hot girl”, but unfortunately due to rampant context death with online media I don’t think we’re ready for that yet as a society.

As mentioned the freedom of choice. But we were never really free. Choosing to assimilate with the word hot for all women as a means of feeling good and allowing us to feel connected while simultaneously grating against the beauty standards that pick what is hot. But we are instead continuing to strap ourselves to the physical. Our appearance while doing something as mundane as walking.

read a book the other day and the MFC said “well as a psychiatrist i think *insert educated and professional thought*, but as a woman i think *insert thought about man being hot*” and it really took me back because why on earth does the author feel the need to separate the fact that she is a women from the fact that she is an educated professional?? and it kept doing this as well she was constantly “conflicted” by the fact that she was a women in a professional setting??? not because other people made it hard for her, but because she made it hard for herself because of her own separation of her profession and her womanhood. it was very strange and i hated it sorry for the rant it felt relevant
