Why would you need a bigger bridge? It’s a 2 lane highway approaching from both directions and it’s a 2 lane bridge.

When the bridges were built (first one 1930’s second one 1960’s) the population of buffalo was actually ~2x larger than now. We’ve seen significant decline since then

Your tolls are used to pay for the upkeep of the bridge. There’s usually maintenance going on most of the time it’s like the tolls on the Thruway. They have their own police force, and the roads need to be maintained plowed in the winter time holes filled, etc..

Sidewalk on the southbound bridge is closed because it’s buckling in so many places. Just walked over the northbound one in the video 2 days ago and there are plenty of rust spots you’d think they’d be interested in replacing. Wish they’d tear them down and replace them with shorter bridges, we don’t have 60’ tall ships passing below them, if they were more flat or just not as tall people wouldn’t be slowing down to 40-45mph while ascending the expanse. $1.00-1.75 per car has to add up pretty quickly
