People saying that the hobbit was not a boys' movie forget that there was only ONE other female character, Galadriel, and we don't see much of her either. That's it. I'm not the biggest fan of how they wrote Tauriel, but more women was a good idea.

now that I'm grown, i don't like the fact that her character was just a love interest with no personality. As a little girl who read the hobbit before the movies were even announced and a huge lotr fan, she meant so much to me. I dressed up as her on Halloween when I was 10

I liked her but Legolas was completely useless in these movies, I feel like Tauriel's character would've worked even better without Legolas constantly tailing her. It also felt out of character for Legolas to act like a lovesick puppy

I love the books and I'm normally annoyed when movie adaptations are so far off the source material, however Tauriel was a 10/10 addition to the movie and I love that part so much. makes the ending even more devastating and tragic 😭

I do understand the feeling, I dislike her because she contradicts some of the middle earth canon, because I found her weakly written and saw so much more potential in other canon female characters that could have been used insetad of the most boring write in.

No no no. I LOVE Tauriel. I hate how they made her just a substitute for Arwen, an eye candy and a love interest. I wanted more from Captain of the Guard Tauriel, and nothing of a love triangle that made one of my fav characters (Legolas) unbearable.

I’d enjoy her if she wasn’t just used for a love trope. But then my favourite character was Fili so a lot of it felt like the relationship between Kili and Tauriel took away from development of his character, which there should’ve been more of imo because for the heir he got way too little screen time. Anyway. I get the importance of having a female character I just don’t enjoy Tauriel at all. I didn’t enjoy Arwen either I hated her as a kid lol.

They created the Tauriel character (and put Galadriel in the Hobbit movies) so that it would have strong female characters. Neither character was in the book. I think they did a fantastic job with The Hobbit films.

this is so serious to me because I will die on this hill!! Tauriel fan for life, thats not to say that I love every aspect of her writing but she was so needed and gave more dimension to not just the story but to Mirkwood (which we already have so little of even if we go as far as Unfinished Tales)
