i love that she's empathetic and clearly loves you dearly, but this behavior at so young makes me a little sad. my mom also struggled a lot with money while i was growing up and ofc as a child, i could see her stress and then took on that stress myself. to this day still have money and security issues stemming from my mother. no child should carry the guilt or burden of their parents monetary struggles. i hope you can explain that to her so that she doesn't internalize it into the future

I thought, when I was little, that moms didn’t eat. I didn’t know we were just very poor. And if we ever went to McDonald’s, my mother would never get anything for herself. She would lightly say: “Fry donation!” and we would each give her a little bit of our fries. 😭 It literally never occurred to me why she didn’t have her own fries. She always so casually insisted she wasn’t hungry. Like an anvil landing on me as an adult. Moms should eat, too.

When I was a kid, my parents didn’t have much. My brother and I nagged for a 7-11 hotdog and my parents finally caved, but we would have to share 1. As we walked to the 7-11 my parents ended up finding some money on the sidewalk. We each got our own hotdog that night. Later years I realized the struggle we were going through and didn’t nag for anything else.

Sometimes when money and value comes up we really see their hearts and logic. My son gave me a rose bush for Valentine’s Day. He said he went to the florist and a dozen roses cost the same as the rose bushes at the nursery so he went back and bought one so that I could have roses all the time. He explained this so that I’d kniw the three roses the bush had weren’t the end. 😂 Guess he didn’t think I knew how rose bushes worked. He had a whole lesson from the nursery gal. I’ve had 10 beautiful roses since Mothers day and the bush is thriving. I’ll get a few dozen more before summer is over I’m sure.

We have had a pretty rough year and I have 3 jobs. My kids know that I've been working extra lately because both of their birthdays are next week. My birthday is tomorrow. I picked them up from their dad's this morning and they each handed me a $20 bill and said they were taking me to the movies and getting snacks for my birthday 😭

Like a decade ago now when my daughter was 4 and my now husband was going through nursing school and working as an EMT I would take her to Wendy’s so she could still be a kid, and just not get myself anything. She would always leave me a nugget and a couple fries to make sure I ate.

yes, I remember as a kid having to worry about my parents finances. That topic dominated our lives from birth to.... well my mom is on my phone plan to this day. ahhh memories.
