Another woman gave birth the same night as me to a baby boy, but she was surrendering him as she had a history of drug problems and going to jail for distribution. Imagine my surprise when not even 6 hours after having my son, this nurse and a woman from the state come in and tell me “okay, it’s time to take him” and when I asked “take him for what?” the nurse said “he’s a ward of the state now.” And naturally, I went off the rails asking why they were taking my baby and would not let him go. The woman from the state said “it’s normal to have these feelings, Samantha, but you did this for little Joseph’s sake.” Cue my mother- also a nurse at this hospital and visiting on her break, exiting the bathroom because she hears her daughter in distress and she proceeded to rip into both the nurse and the woman from the state for not reading or remembering patient faces and names. My name isn’t Samantha and my son’s name definitely wasn’t Joseph. They just assumed I was this girl because I have tattoos and piercings. That nurse ended up getting fired because this wasn’t the first time she had done this.

I’ve had a pacemaker since I was 5. When I was 16, I started feeling super faint and was tired all the time. Called my cardiologist and he told me to go to the closest ER to have an EKG done. ER doc told me I was too young for a pacemaker and I was probably just drinking too much caffeine. Turns out, one of my pacemaker leads had come unplugged from my heart.

I was having the worst migraine I’d ever had. I was on day four when I finally went to the hospital. Doctor didn’t even look at me, just sent some meds with a nurse. I got half way home when my muscles started seizing and my eyes rolling. Managed to get back to the hospital, heart racing couldn’t breath, my tounge was swollen. I was terrified. They decided when that I was back because I wanted narcotics, even though I said specifically the first time I DID NOT 2NT NARCOTICS AND NOT TO GIVE THEM TO ME. ended up having two seizures on the floor of the waiting room and the nurses pulled me into the back hallway, BY MY FEET, and yelled at me for “scaring the other patients”. Well bitch, I’m scared too. Had another seizure and came to surrounded by nurses yelling at me and this one doctor who looked horrified. He made them get me up and get me into a bed and didn’t leave me until he figured out what was wrong. Turns out I was having the most severe allergic reaction he had ever seen to the medication they had given me earlier and the symptoms I have come to the ER for the first time turned out to be meningococcal meningitis. I almost died.

'sometimes tummies just hurt'. said to me by a male er dr when i was complaining about lower stomach pain (thought it was my appendix). my fallopian tube was twisted and I had a cyst on my ovary. but sure, sometimes tummies just hurt.

“It’s just a cyst” it was a miscarriage. “It’s just anxiety” it is a heart condition and I need surgery now. 15 years of it’s just anxiety.

in the ER with severe abdominal pain the doctor told me (having only done blood work, no scans or physical exam), that she was "pretty sure" it was my gall bladder and "nothing to worry about". I asked her how certain she was. she looked at me like I just punched her and said "I know it is" I said "well thats crazy, I had it out 16 years ago" spoiler: appendicitis.

I understand that ppl lie to you constantly but you need to assume everyone is telling the truth until tests and diagnosis say otherwise. every single person has a story of a doctor or nurse doing these things and no amount of "oh I thought you were lying or drug seeking" makes this ok

"young women just pass out sometimes. it's normal, you'll grow out of it. Huh??????? It was POTS. and at 29, ten years later, I haven't grown out of it yet. Also switched my gender, and hilariously enough, testosterone does help. a nice bonus.

I was told I was in pain because of my weight, I said I gained weight because I can’t do anything because of the pain. She told me I needed to work on my diet( in a snarky tone) she was a spine specialist. I was in there to see if I needed surgery for my 7 herniated discs after a car accident.

“You just need to go to therapy and meds” fast forward 5 years, a holistic neurologist, and a week only trip to Mayo Clinic, turns out I have a neurological disorder. Children’s hospital being negligent took away my childhood and teenage years. 13-18 I was completely disabled. Dropped out of high school because it was impossible. Luckily I’m In remission but I missed 6 years of life because doctors didn’t care.

Hot take: no healthcare professional should be doing more than 8 hour shifts. ER and ICU should be 6-hour shifts. It's one of the few jobs that's simultaneously extremely physically, mentally, and emotionally taxing.

was visiting my mom in the hospital when I started throwing up blood. her nurse quickly got me down to the ER. there was a student doctor who was like, "are you sure you're throwing up blood and not just something red?" I proceeded to throw up in front of him. The actual doctor turned to him and went, "does that answer your question?"

I was breastfeeding got an infection in my milk duct went to the er because I couldn't get the fever down the doctor told my I was just has anxiety from "being a new mom" I have 3 older kids and been breastfeeding for 10 years called my ob she gave me antibiotics

I was gaslit into thinking I probably had a rare blood disorder or was just overreacting to symptoms including dizziness, itchy ears, light-headedness, migraines for the first time, seeing things outta the corner of my eye that weren’t there, smelling things that weren’t there, nausea, irregular periods, etc. Anyone wanna guess what it was after thousands of dollars in tests? Perimenopause and fibroids. Being a woman is NOT fun y’all.

EMS picked me up from my floor 2 days post cholecystectomy. Free fluid in my abdomen, throwing up, excruciating pain, and couldn’t walk. Wanted to send me home. I went to the hospital with my mom almost died because of a heartattack because they didn‘t believe us. Went with my stepdad because of really ba dpain in my ovary 30min later I had an emergency operation. See the difference they believed me because my dad said: „I never saw her in so much pain and she normally handels pain good“

I told my doctor that I thought I might have Ehlers-Danlos syndrome because my symptoms and comorbidities seem to match it really well. HE looked at me and said., “ that’s a really rare condition and I highly doubt that you have it” I replied “ is it really rare or were women just not included in the original studies?”
