when Gangle asks, "Why can't I cry for him?" that's her conveying that she doesn't feel grief over Jax abstracting. she feels guilty over not feeling bad about it which is why she's breaking down

dying isn't consequences in stories

Guimtao :
Narratively yes, a character dying allows them to avoid taking accountability and having to deal with their mistakes.

your own actions are not consequences, and pomni literally went into jax's mind after death to continue to comfort him and enable him. He faced NO consequences

Abstraction is literally giving up on your life. So yes, canonically, jax is dead.

Social consequences with the relationships they had they blew away everything after she pressed the button because “everyone does bad things”

Jax literally says “I don’t wanna go” so in her case abstraction is a punishment because she ended up wanting to stay and couldn’t cus she abstracted which was a result of her pushing everyone away. Jax was punished with abstraction for pushing evb away because like I said she ended up not wanting to abstract.

It’s also clear to see that the story doesn’t absolve her of her mistakes and her being alone and left with her regrets and guilt until it consumed her in the form of abstraction IS a form of consequences.

What people mean is that Jax didn’t face the consequences THEY wanted to see it’s such an odd way to consume a story

People confuse consequences with punishments and it’s very telling.

if Jax didn't get consequences, Jax wouldn't have abstracted at all. she's her own worst enemy.

Jax has to exist in perpetuity basically reliving the worst moments she can remember.

Jax was someone who could never stop themselves from the spiral. If nothing else abstraction was the consequence that finally stopped their spiral. It may not be a happy ending but in a way its a mercy

except she literally knew she was going to abstract and still refused help. she knew it was coming and didnt do shit about it. while yes, its technically a consequence, its a really small one compared to her actions, especially knowing she KNEW it was gonna happen. personally, i think it sounds more like escaping from consequences and confrontation rather than facing her consequences.

I just wish it was done in a way that gives the audience more catharsis instead of doing backflips to try and make us feel bad
