Tuesday 14 July 2026...another Mazda CX-5 SKYACTIV-D has been successfully spared from catastrophic engine CEASURE/LOCK-UP. The underlying issue was a severely clogged DPF, which prompted the Engine Control Unit to execute an excessive number of regeneration cycles in a frantic attempt to clear the clogged Diesel Particulate Filter(DPF) .This relentless reheating pushed exhaust temperatures to dangerous levels, risking a blown head gasket and potential damage to the cylinder head. Furthermore, the continuous post-injection fuel required for these regenerations heavily diluted the engine oil, causing a precipitous loss of viscosity. With its lubricating properties compromised, the engine was teetering on the brink of a terminal LOCK-UP. This case serves as yet another reminder that the DPF is unequivocally the primary culprit behind the vast majority of SKYACTIV-D engine FAILURES.
