So AI is starting to uncover an entire hidden world of animal communication. Here are the six craziest discoveries so far: Number one, AI discovered that elephants call each other by name. When researchers played a name-like call back, the elephant came running and answered. Number two, AI analyzed almost 54,000 marmoset calls and discovered these tiny monkeys use names too. Entire families used similar labels for the same monkey, suggesting they learn names and dialects from each other. Number two, AI learned to tell what Egyptian fruit bats were arguing about, whether it was food, mating, sleeping spots, or personal space. It could even partly identify who was shouting at whom. Number three, AI discovered something like a phonetic alphabet inside sperm whale clicks. Rhythm, tempo, and tiny changes in timing combine into at least 143 recurring patterns this makes their communication system nearly ten times more expressive than scientists previously believed. And we still don’t know what most of it means. But this is where it gets even crazier. Number four, AI combined microphones worn by wild crows with cameras placed around their nests. It linked quiet calls to nest arrivals and chick care, revealing how entire crow families coordinate raising their young. And number five, AI analyzed 1.5 million zebra finch calls, then held real-time vocal exchanges with living birds. It generated calls as the birds spoke, and they responded with the same timing and flexibility they use with each other.
