@fox12oregon: USA Fencing’s Summer Nationals have returned to Portland for the first time since 1977. The 10-day tournament, taking place at the Oregon Convention Center through July 6, features more than 6,000 qualified athletes ranging in age from 7 to 89, including Olympians and Paralympians competing for national titles in épée, foil and saber. Fencers representing 46 states are expected to compete, including 17-year-old saber fencer Chloe Myat of the Fencing Academy of Westchester in New York. Myat said that at a tournament this large, success comes down to staying focused one bout at a time. “So just giving it my best and focusing on myself. Every bout is an opportunity to get better.”
