Hi! I’ve been going through a horrible OCD flare-up. My OCD gets extremely triggered by big changes (as so many of ours does) and my sister moving across the country, as well as having a full time job and school at the same time, was the perfect combo for my current flare-up that’s been going on for a month. I’ve noticed myself ruminating more about simple decisions and what they might mean about me, struggling with guilt about being there for my mom due to being very busy, and feeling very stuck to the point where I didn’t use my fridge for 2 weeks because it didn’t feel like the right time to clean it. This slideshow takes you through what I’ve been dealing with, but also what I’ve been doing to help myself. A lot of the OCD community is full of people like me who can’t just stop work, school, their responsibilities etc. And when OCD is flaring up on top of all those things, it can be very hard mentally. Baby steps and throwing myself into the unknown (believing my mom without overanalyzing, making myself clean the fridge, setting times for chores) even if it’s uncomfortable has helped me tremendously and I highly recommend it to you if you’re doing through something similar. Why? Every baby step makes the next one easier. And small steps add up to big changes. That’s also how OCD therapy works, and a big reason i’m able to take these baby steps is because of what I learned in therapy. If you have OCD and are struggling with a flare-up, please know it can get better.
