You can tell a lot of commentators don’t regularly go boating. Unless you regularly boat on a particular lake you would not know the lake well or where you exited to pee. It’s a very different on the lake & knowing your way around it than say on land & driving around a lake. But if you are a regular boater on a lake you will know every cove, island, common gathering spots for boaters like the back of your hand but if you only visited the lake occasionally you would be easily confused about where at on the lake you were & when. So it is not odd that many of her friends said they were unsure of exactly where they were & when. It doesn’t matter if they live there or not it’s not the same as regularly driving a boat on that water. I lived near a lake for decades but until we got a boat & I regularly drove it I didn’t know the lake. Now I know every inch of it. If the driver says he doesn’t know where they were then that would be a problem in my opinion.
