This is the PiggyPower Ember, the smallest of my thermoelectric generators. It's designed to produce electricity using something as simple as a candle, Sterno, wood stove, or just about any steady heat source. Even running at roughly a third of its full output, it can charge an iPhone in around eight hours. I know that might sound slow to some people, but imagine you're in a real emergency, the power is out, your phone is dead, and you have absolutely no other way to charge it. Suddenly, eight hours doesn't sound so bad, does it? And that's just the beginning. My larger cells open up even more possibilities. Normally, these generators use circulating water to keep the cold side cool. I'm simply demonstrating the Ember on a candle here, but that water can actually serve another purpose. By pairing one of my cells with a PiggyPower HeatBank, you can take the heat being carried away by the water and use it for hydronic space heating. Imagine having a wood stove or another heat source generating electricity while simultaneously circulating warm water through a HeatBank to help heat your home. You could incorporate a storage tank, build a larger heating loop, or even design a system that transfers heat into a hot tub while producing electricity at the same time. Of course, how much heat and electricity you get depends on your heat source and how the system is designed, but just think about the possibilities here. That's what makes this technology so fascinating to me. We're talking about taking heat that would otherwise go to waste and finding ways to put it to work. Every one of these generators is something I've personally designed, built, and tested, and I'm constantly experimenting with ways to make them even more useful. PiggyPower is still just getting started, and I've got a whole lot more planned for the future.
