That was me at Sun Life. Between the manager and the director, I'd had enough. So I took a 3-month medical leave, collecting 60% of my salary while I quietly looked for another job. Once I secured a new role paying $30,000 more, I went back to toxic work. On my very first day back, HR and my manager called me into a meeting and fired me. They thought it would crush me, but I couldn't stop laughing. I walked away with a $25,000 severance package, another $8,000 for unused vacation, started my new job a week later, and 5 years later I'm still loving it.
