YES LITERALLY. Im so tired of seeing people use poor excuses like “its just a bug” “its just a fish”. Anytime I hear that from people justifying cruelty and abuse towards animals im absolutely disgusted. That lack of empathy is surprisingly common amongst average people and im sick of it

i feel like it isn’t unreasonable to believe that human life is more valuable than animal life (and probably everyone would agree). i mean, if you were faced with the choice of whether to save a human life or a chicken, most people would choose the human. the question of who deserves what amount of moral consideration doesn’t have an agreed upon answer. what is more important (i think) is that things can still be bad for non-human animals while being “worse” for humans. even if non-human animals do deserve less moral consideration than humans (which may or may not be true), the fact that they deserve any amount of consideration means that a lot of the ways in which we treat them cannot be justified.

I really wish people thought of people as being the same as any other animal we kill to eat, that's life, but being intellegent and empathetic lets us be more humane with how we consume our food, even if a lot of people think it doesn't matter
