This is my favourite trend of the 3 modern Persona games, the protagonists. Makoto, Yu and Ren were oppressed or subjected to fate in a cruel twisted way, be it passively, subtley or directly but their souls resisted and outright rejected fate, they fought literal embodiments of absolution in the universe: death, falsehood, control and won. In these stories usually in fiction the character isn't supposed to win but to accept it in a way where they let it rule them, living around it but the Persona protagonists literally win by accepting these things WITHOUT letting it rule them. Makotos meaning of life and everything that made it precious could not be affected by the despair of the end. Yu's unbreakable truth and all the people who helped him obtain that power could not be swayed by the myriad of lies in the world. And Ren's rebellion along with all the people who had their hearts hidden by masks could not be stopped by a world that conforms people by forcing them to lose themselves. They weren't alone, they got stronger through connections. Connections and memories are what solidifies the value of life and its a very precious thing that can give you the power to overcome any thing you face, Makoto died for everyone not because everyone was worth dying for but because they were worth living for, choosing action against Nyx proved life was worth living after all, if one truth is stronger than a thousand lies then Yu's myriad truths was the bane of curses for no lie could stand in the path of what was truly important to them and his friends helped him see that, Ren was pushed to the brink as a reject by society, yet as the cycle progressed where he'd resonate agency in others who'd then believe in him, he'd go on to reject the control of the world that kept people trapped. And they weren't alone, they didn't just have their social links/confidants, they had you, the player who helped them all reach their happy ending. To the fear of death, to the curses of the world and the control of society, you do not let it define you, you burn your dread and move on as your true self because life will change. So now, it's your turn. BEGONE.
