Piénsalo un segundo. El mismo comportamiento. En una persona admirada, se llama creatividad. En una joven sin poder, se llama enfermedad. La diferencia no está en el acto, sino en quién lo hace. Esa es la historia de Susanna, en Girl Interrupted. Y detrás de ella late la pregunta de ¿quién decide quién está loco? Un filósofo, Michel Foucault, dedicó su vida a esa pregunta. Y su respuesta fue inquietante. La locura, decía, no es algo natural, sino una construcción. Lo que cada época llama "locura" depende de su moral, de sus miedos y de lo que necesita excluir para sentirse en orden. Para los griegos, el loco a veces veía lo que otros no podían ver. En la Edad Media pasó a estar poseído por el demonio. En el siglo XVII, simplemente se le encerró: junto a mendigos, pobres y criminales, pero no para curarlo, sino para apartarlo. Luego llegó la psiquiatría y le quitó las cadenas. Pero para Foucault la liberación no fue tal, puesto que las cadenas de hierro fueron reemplazadas por otras, invisibles. Ahora alguien decide qué gesto es un síntoma, qué emoción es una enfermedad y cuándo estás "curado". Y ese alguien tiene un poder casi absoluto, disfrazado de compasión. Es lo que ves en el hospital de la película. Todo está controlado: las comidas, el sueño, el espacio íntimo, y las pastillas que debes tomar, aunque no las necesites. La docilidad se premia y la resistencia se castiga. Y entonces entiendes que el objetivo nunca fue sanar, sino normalizar. Una de las chicas está internada solo por ser lesbiana. En esa época, eso era "una enfermedad". Y con esa sola palabra, la institución se daba permiso de confinarla y corregirla. Ahí dentro, la libertad no dependía de estar mejor, sino de aprender a parecer normal. Y antes de creer que esto es cosa del pasado… Hoy seguimos, a veces, llamando enfermedad a lo que simplemente no encaja. Quizá la línea entre la cordura y la locura nunca fue tan clara como creemos.
