But here’s the problem: those studies were observational. They couldn’t prove TRT was the cause. The men taking TRT were often older and already had more health issues, which are the very things that increase surgical risk. Later studies haven’t found that being on prescribed TRT increases the risk of dying or having major cardiovascular complications after surgery. (PubMed) If you’re on a stable TRT protocol, don’t stop it just because you’re having an operation. The bigger conversation is making sure your surgeon and anaesthetist know every medication you’re taking and following their advice, especially if you have other medical conditions.
