Let’s agree that there are some floods that equate to hurricanes, tornadoes and earthquakes. The amount of rainfall we have experienced this past month is not something that any good drainage systems can hold. Even buildings, roads and bridges are getting destroyed by the rains. The opposite is being experience in Europe where they’re experiencing extreme heatwaves.

The reason why the flooding has not worsened significantly is due to the presence of the Achimota Forest, which is the last remaining forest in Accra. If this forest were to be replaced with urban development, it is likely that areas such as Dzorwulu, Airport Residential, Roman Ridge, Abulempe, Achimota, Kisseman, Westland, Haatso, North Legon, and even Dome would experience flooding. Many individuals have already purchased land within the Achimota Forest area.
