In contrast, in Spanish we call it “Miércoles”, coming from Mercury (the God/planet). As well as other week days names, they come from the Roman Mythology.

Days of the week are named after the planets. Sunday(Dominica)=Sun…..Monday(Lunedi)=Moon…..Tuesday(Martedi)=Mars…..Wednesday(Mercoledi)=Mercury…..Thursday(Giovedi)=Jupiter……Friday(Venerdi)=Venus…..Saturday(Sabato)=Saturn. In history the naming changed.

Professor, thanks for sharing, im Mexican, in Spanish that is a Romance language (to the best of my knowledge) the name of the days are related to the planets, and some planets related from gods. (Monday) *Lunes = Luna = Moon. *Martes = Marte (God of wars) = Mars. *Miercoles = Mercurio = Mercury. * Jueves = Jupiter (king of gods). *Viernes = Venus (goddess of love). Saturday and Sunday has religious and cultural influence. Sábado = Sabatt from the Hebrew tradition means “a day to rest”. Sunday = Domingo from DOMINICUS (The lords day), Catholics reference.
