@abbeyheffer: Should I turn @Abbey (just the books) into a "China: Just the Positives" account? As you know, I used to work for a local Chinese government (see my pinned post "Who funds my research?" or Google the @FinancialTimes article "The young foreigners embedded in Chinese local government" for more info), so I'm reasonably well-versed in navigating this system. I've always been interested in soft power (cultural/public diplomacy)... I mean, I come from a country with a literal, in-house monarchy. Should I get involved in China's emerging soft power industry? If I do, I think I would stick to tourism content, which would tie in nicely with my focus on the local. I've wanted to work with local Bureaus of Tourism for ages, but my work has pretty just stayed within local Bureaus of Commerce 🫣 Let me know what you think! #phdlife #chinastyle #tiktokchina

as someone who lived in China a decade ago (and is also now in research), it's been absolutely fascinating to see how the public opinion on China has evolved and shifted over the past 10 years or so!

Not many livestreamers create content about Chinese museums; there are so many museums in China, and I think this aligns with your academic background.

The green movement would be a good subject to tackle. Like how the desert was tamed by planting, then the solar panels and how the sheeps are eating the grass, watered by the water that cleans the panels.

I think it’d be good. But could I ask that if you do tourism content that you actually talk with locals and ask then how they feel about the places they live? What changes they’ve seen, how do they like things like the rise of some tourist destinations, etc… I’m cool if content highlights good and bad in tourism stuff just so long as we get a genius set of local opinions

I guess this is a form of transference. When a person feels disappointed in themselves, they need to find something to cling to in order to soothe their sense of loss and regain hope.

I've pondered over this and I understand your dilemma regards how to reach a broader audience. Maybe you could possibly reach out to the various Chinese authorities involved and do some interviews while also promoting their speciality. While also reaching and teaching your/their targeted audience. Perhaps.🤔
