If you completed your nursing education in Germany, or in any country outside the U.S., your first step is choosing the U.S. state where you want to apply for licensure. Here’s why… The NCLEX is the same exam everywhere in the United States, but every State Board of Nursing has its own application requirements. Some states require a credential evaluation. Some require English language testing in certain situations. Some require additional documents or have different eligibility rules. If you apply to the wrong state without doing your research, you could waste months of your time and hundreds of dollars. So before you spend a single euro, decide which state fits your situation and contact that Board of Nursing to confirm exactly what they require for internationally educated nurses. That one decision can make the rest of your NCLEX journey much smoother.
