BMW N47 Full Timing Chain Repair Series Begins | PART 1. • In this video, we work on a 2008 BMW 3 Series equipped with the 2.0 diesel N47D20 engine. Today we begin a major repair series focused on one of the most well-known problems on these engines - timing chain replacement. • The BMW N47 engine is infamous for one major design issue: unlike most engines, the timing chain is located at the rear of the engine, facing the transmission side, making access extremely difficult. • According to official BMW repair manuals, the proper factory repair procedure requires complete engine removal in order to replace the timing chain system. • In this project, however, I will show an alternative repair method that allows the timing chain replacement to be performed without removing the engine from the vehicle. • The job still requires major disassembly. To access the timing system, the automatic transmission, oil pan, valve cover, and rear engine cover all need to be removed. • Even without engine removal, this remains one of the most difficult repairs on BMW diesel engines of this generation. • In this first part, we begin with the preparation stage - removing the automatic transmission in order to gain access to the rear side of the engine. • The video shows the complete gearbox removal process, correct repair sequence, and all major steps required before starting the timing chain replacement on the BMW N47 engine. • #supermechanik #artempankovich #carservice #goldenhandsmechanic #CarRepair - @artem_pankovich
