@mathmanx: Stuff like this is why the younger generations are currently set to be the first ones in history who will not outperform their elders. #mamaowl
apparently this all started because an author used the word scrying.

Ostensibly, I remain utterly incapable of elucidating the mechanism by which the profound lexical inadequacies and demonstrable deficiencies in reading comprehension exhibited by certain individuals have somehow undergone a spontaneous metaphysical transmutation into an obligation requiring my intellectual accommodation. The correlation between their functional illiteracy and my perceived responsibility to remediate it continues to elude my comprehension entirely.

I grew up with a Mom who loved learning a new word (Or more) a week. It was a game to stump her ! Had teachers who questioned my vocabulary in elementary school, but a teacher in high school who celebrated it! I miss her so much

I'm learning disabled. extremely so, on soooo many fronts. I was told from the time I was 7 that I would never learn to read, never graduate, and probably end up in jail because of what the testing and specialists found.
English was my best subject. I spent time translating Shakespeare into modern English for my highschool classmates. I graduated and went on to college.
language is beautiful and amazing and so much fun!

So because an author used a word someone didn’t know in a book they decided any time someone uses a “big word”(word that someone doesn’t know) it’s “ableist”? It’s not hard to look up a word one doesn’t know in a dictionary or in this day and age on google, and guess what, one expands their own vocabulary by doing so!!

I learned all my “big words” from books that challenged me as a young adult. It’s called a dictionary.

If I don’t know a word I do one of three things: sound it out, look up how to say it, or make a new word. It is not the hard guys you just need to practice and try.
