And imo, most importantly, the prisoners kill the freed prisoner when he returns and tries to share truth. After my Kundalini awakening, I started relating so deeply to this story. We cannot force others into enlightenment/Self-realization. When we try, it is often met with antipathy or even hostility (and at worst, violence). It also speaks to the innate isolation that comes with awakening, the human ego’s inevitable return even after significant spiritual expansion (returning to the cave even after seeing the sun aka “the light”/Truth), and the very basic human need/drive for connection.

Plato’s allegory was the first thing I learned in philosophy class in high school and it has stayed with me ever since, but I started to properly understand it on deeper level when I begun my spiritual journey and had to demolish a lot of pre-programmed beliefs, fears and ideas. This story has always brought me comfort in the difficult moments when I was figuratively climbing up the cage and when I was being awakened by the light outside. Thank you for reminding me of it💛

We spent an entire unit on the allegory of the cave in one of my education classes and you did a better job summarizing and digging into it than that teacher. I think he really only wanted to talk about the Matrix 🙄
