S9 ep 2 had the best portrayals of Rick and Morty as villains & of sad alcoholism. I love the writing now that Roiland is gone, it feels like there are actual consequences to character behavior now

As awful as JR is as a person I don’t think he intended for people to idolize him in that way. Yeah Rick is supposed to be a smart guy but I don’t think he was ever supposed to be a good person

That’s the seductive allure of the antihero. Cuz a ✨Hero✨ in any story adheres, more or less, to certain principles of goodness. It’s not merely his external deeds, but his internal work that makes him the Hero. But an Anti-hero? Ohhhh, baby, an Antihero gets all the court-of-public-opinion pizazz of being in the right while also indulging and unleashing horrible, toxic, violent, negative impulses. You don’t have to change anything about yourself as long as you’re effective enough against the “real” bad guys. For an a$$hole media consumer, this is irresistible.

Like even Rick hates himself. He tried to take his life on screen in front of viewers. One of the newest episodes features Rick literally wiping his own memories for a few months out of the year as a "vacation" so he doesn't have to be himself. He consistently shows he doesn't want to be himself and its so hard to miss that
