Volume up 🐋🎶🐋😍🦈😍 @oneoceandiving this week: Being surrounded by sharks in deep open ocean is already a profoundly beautiful, humbling, and freeing experience, but listening to a humpback whale singing so loudly below the boat that my internal organs dance while I watch the sharks gliding ever so gracefully, it’s another level of immersive beauty that takes my breath away, which is helpful since I’m freediving 😉🦈🧜‍♀️ The experience hits so many sensory systems and I’m always in awe this time of year❤️😍🦈🐋. Every season has something I am uniquely grateful for and it is pretty neat that in summer we have the excitement of tiger shark visits and winter we have higher numbers of sharks and the excitement of seeing and hearing whales too 😍🎶🦈🐋In spring we have a higher chance of seeing whale sharks and in fall it’s still prime tiger season but with the shifting seasonal weather everything elevated for those max # of big lady sharks 🐅🦈 A few whales have swam within eye sight under the @oneoceandiving boat already this month while snorkeling with the sharks, an experience that is becoming less rare every year as whale populations are making a rebound thanks to conservation efforts ❤️🐋❤️🦈 When you give wildlife and nature a break it can rebound, if it’s not past that critical tipping point. 🦈⭐️ Just like whales were once hunted to the brink of extinction, most large shark species are headed towards extinction because of unsustainable practices like shark finning, bycatch, shark fishing, marine debris entanglement and culling. As apex predators, sharks are naturally slow to reproduce. They tend to take many years or many decades reach sexual maturity, and they have on average very long gestation periods. The longest estimated shark gestation period is potentially more than 8 years and yet even that shark species is still not protected (Search Greenland Shark gestation period for more information.) So what can be done? Support the protection of sharks. Thank you to those who support the conservation efforts of @oneoceandiving @oneoceanconservation @savetheseaturtlesinternational and friends ❤️ We are so grateful for your help over the years ❤️ #sharkconservation #sharkdiving #whalesongs #sharkid_clare
