The reason a lot of bakers don’t make their own cake batter is for consistency. Even large bakeries use commercial cake mix as the base for their cakes. That’s not the issue. The issue is using a cake mix then calling it a copyrighted recipe.

I just saw a lawyer comment on this saying you CANNOT copyright a recipe. a cookbook CAN be copyrighted, but that's for the design choices (pictures, order, flavor text, etc.) and not the recipes themselves, this is why things like the Coca-Cola recipe is secret and the recipe is secured in a vault because they can't copyright them
