@corporatedropout_mom: Let’s talk about how a lot of career advice is not written for high performers. Effort and doing more is not their problem. They struggle with setting boundaries, not doing or taking on work that is not theirs and making their contributions and impact visible. Sometimes we need a reminder that working twice as hard is less a recipe for a promotion and more for burnout. What do you think? What career advice would you offer a high performer that brings value to their work life? #corporatelife #highperformer #careeradvice

Even though I was a high performer I had "imposter syndrome " to a degree and didn't toot my own horn. I wasn't typically overwhelmed with tasks but was given the hard tasks because I could get them done when no one else could but at review time I was just seen as meeting expectations. I ended up in a strange situation. My entire IT group of 23 except for me was notified they would be laid off in 3 months when work sent offshore. I was to oversee offshore development because I was the one person that knew all of the pieces. No talk of a promotion or raise. I was the first person in the group to find a new job. I landed in an organization that recognized and acknowledged that I was a high performer.

I'd say everyone thinks they're a high performer. They aren't.

Eh, I'd say my problem is branding. After 20+ years in the work force, I still expect to be recognized on my work alone.
