@mmaakuo_slayqueen: Some time back, i was telling a hairdresser a little about Tseaddo, anyone who grew up in La will know this too. As a child who grew up in La, i followed my grandfather a lot to his farm, he had an okro farm, tomato farm, maize and watermelon farms. The farmland had multiple streams and the areas were mostly waterlogged. We used to call this farm areas “Tradefair Sɛɛ” (behind the Trade fair) because of the famous Ghana International Trade Fair building which has now been demolished, there was the beautiful African Lake and the Kpeshie which extended deep into the farms. Before we knew it these farm areas were being cleared and some of our people from La moved to stay there, then the name Tse Addo came up (from what we were told it’s a name of one of the first few people who moved there “Addo”). The place became a whole new area on its own and our grandparents sold most part of it. Eventually the beautiful streams got filled, a part of the African lake got filled and the Kpeshie as well got filled. I was just telling the hairdresser that with time these water bodies will find their ways back, because there’s no way we can win this battle with nature. Most of the people who built around these areas never stayed there, they rented them out and left tenants to their fate. Some are also there but have made sure they reserve their ground and first floors for such heavy rains so those parts of their homes are empty. What has happened today is extreme and it is a matter of emergency, measures have to be taken and this includes demolishing some buildings because this will surely happen again, if not soon, maybe some years later.

My dad had a house at bush road. He sold it in 2005 because it was waterlogged and it was behind a lagoon. We were not happy with his decision but today I understand him

my great grand father ... Tse Addo had his farm lands and cattle ranch there, we went there during harvest to get our keep. all those streams are not where to be found. Greed and so call development.

Ghana-China Trader :
I remember vividly in the early 80's, Tse Addo was once a quiet, remote cattle and farming village behind the Trade Fair, where we crossed the Kpeshie River on foot to trap crabs, hunt rabbits and other small bush animals, and in some cases, if you landed some cash, we even bought fresh milk directly from the Tse Addo Cattle Ranch. Today, the area has transformed into one of Accra's busiest and most expensive residential communities, a clear sign of how cities evolve. It is also important to understand that urban development often comes with challenges, particularly flooding. As natural wetlands are built over and populations increase, drainage systems come under greater pressure. Even highly developed countries face similar issues. For example, the Netherlands is globally recognised for its world-class water engineering and flood management systems. Yet, because much of the country lies below sea level, it still experiences flooding and continually invests in improving its water infrastructure. The lesson is that development is a continuous process. As cities grow, governments, engineers, businesses, and residents must work together to improve drainage, protect waterways, and build resilient infrastructure. Rather than simply blaming the past or the present, we should appreciate our history while supporting practical solutions for the future.

I was a kid in the early 90s when my uncle snuck us through African lake and kpeshie to the labadi beach. Somehow when I went back to that area years later, I assumed it was a figment of my imagination. Thanks for clarifying it for me.

I wholly support your opinion of the demolition. I live in Tse Addo and I didn’t know there was flood on my next lane. I was bemused about the event

Thanks for the history Naa. Now look at the results. The water has no where to drain into the ground because everything is paved and nowhere to run into the sea because the water bodies have been dredged and paved as well.
